Where Tradition Meets Contemporary Design
This new build home in South Tipperary is a perfect example of blending thoughtful design with the surrounding landscape. We were involved from the initial design phase through to the completion of the build, creating a home that meets both the clients’ vision and the planning requirements of the local area.
Before we joined the project, the clients had a pre-planning meeting with the local area planning officer, who suggested a design approach that would suit the site. Without knowing this, we developed a concept that not only reflected the clients’ brief but also aligned perfectly with the planning officer's recommendations—showcasing our ability to intuitively create designs that work with the environment.
The house is split into two distinct blocks: a single-story front with a pitched roof and a two-story rear section, seamlessly linked by a flat-roof element. From the road, the house appears as a charming, renovated cottage, but a closer look reveals a striking modern design. This approach breaks up the mass and bulk of the house, allowing it to sit naturally into the landscape while maintaining a contemporary feel.
Designed with the sun path in mind, the home maximises natural light and outdoor connectivity. The open-plan interior flows onto a spacious patio through large sliding and bi-fold doors. Surrounded by a low-level wall, the patio creates a sheltered outdoor space perfect for relaxing or entertaining.
This home is a beautiful blend of traditional charm and modern innovation, perfectly tailored to its environment and the needs of its owners.
