Meet Michael

A recent addition to the JS Design team has been our new architectural technologist Michael Lynch, who relocated from Limerick to his native home, Kerry. We’re really pleased to have him on board, and look forward to developing more succesful projects with the addition of his talents and skills. We grabbed five minutes with Michael so we can share more about his background and skills;

  1. What does your role involve?

My role is quite varied. There is a lot of conceptual design work in 2D and 3D to table in front of our clients. We spend time scrutinising every design until we are happy that it meets the clients brief. On the practical side of things, I cover a lot of surveying, building surveys, external level surveys and site surveying. A large part of my role here is dedicated to the tender process for projects which we have finalised a design on. We leave no stone un-turned in terms of regulations, specifications and finishes in our working drawings. Everyone knows where they stand and it gives the client good piece of mind.

  1. What is your favourite house design feature or what are you known for?

There are so many but I’d have to say that at the moment I’m a big fan of verandah’s. We all know the line, it’d be a great little country if only we could roof it, or something to that effect. Why not make your Patio or BBQ area usable at all times during our unpredictable Summers?

  1. Who is your architectural hero or inspiration?

Anything and everything, I take in bits of everything, mix them up and something unique always comes out.

  1. Do you prefer contemporary or traditional design and why?

I like traditional design but with some modern elements here and there. It’s nice to see a house fit in with its neighbouring dwellings, but also stand out at the same time, if that makes sense?

  1. Favourite thing about your job?

Helping people get to the end of their project. It’s all well and good for those of us in the construction industry, we know what’s what, but for a lot of people the whole process is intimidating and daunting. It’s very satisfying helping the clients along the way. Building is a huge undertaking for people, especially when there is debt involved.

  1. Favourite thing about County Kerry?

The scenery, I saw a lot more of it during this pandemic than i would have otherwise. It’s very easy to forget what we have on our doorstep.

  1. Describe JS Design in 3 words?

Creative, practical & genuine.

  1. What do you like doing when you’re not working?

I like to be active, hit the gym, go hiking, I actually picked up my guitar and my golf clubs again this year after a long sabbatical. I’ll be doing my best to keep them up from now on.
