Nestled in the heart of County Kildare, this project was a complete reimagining of an old cottage that no longer served its purpose. The original home suffered from poor layout, limited natural light, and an orientation that didn’t align with the sun path. Additionally, the house required significant upgrades to meet modern standards of insulation, heating, and energy efficiency.

The challenge didn’t end there. Behind the house stood an ancillary building used as a kids' den. While functional, it was a structure the homeowners had invested in and could not be removed.

Our solution was a transformative redesign that brought everything together seamlessly. A modern flat-roof link now connects the main house and the ancillary building, creating a cohesive flow between the spaces. The existing cottage was completely gutted and given a new layout, opening the home to natural light and views of the garden. An extension provided additional bedrooms, a utility space, and a striking new main entrance, blending traditional charm with contemporary design.

The home also underwent a full energy upgrade, dramatically improving insulation and heating systems to meet today’s efficiency standards. The result is a home that feels brand-new yet retains the character of its original structure.
