Breathing New Life into an Ancestral Home Near Rathmore

This project is a heartfelt transformation of a vacant two-storey dwelling near Rathmore, once an ancestral home for the Murphy family. After years of neglect and an incomplete, poorly constructed extension left behind by a previous owner, the Murphys sought to restore and reimagine the property into a modern, functional family home.

We undertook a comprehensive planning application to renovate and extend the dwelling, preserving its heritage while embracing contemporary design. The result is a home that honours its past while looking toward the future.

Key features of the design include:

  • A Complete Layout Redesign: The existing interior has been entirely reimagined, creating a modern and functional living space tailored to the family's needs.

  • Thoughtful Extensions: The extensions open up the home to the south, maximising natural light and connecting the interior with a secluded garden and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

  • Blending Old and New: A single-storey extension to the rear, featuring a lean-to roof, creates a striking visual contrast while complementing the original structure. This design seamlessly integrates traditional elements with a modern aesthetic.

Currently under construction, this project is set to be completed mid-year. Once finished, it will be a beautiful blend of history and modern living, bringing this ancestral home back to life for generations to come.
